MOSCOW, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Volgograd region expects increasing cooperation with Chinese partners in various fields, Deputy Governor Anna Pisemskaya told Xinhua in a recent interview.

Pisemskaya said Volgograd eyes future plans with Chinese partners in jointly launching innovative projects, developing green energy, expanding transport corridors and deepening scientific and educational cooperation.

The official noted that the region's trade with China has been robust over the years, with trade turnover increasing 66.8 percent in 2024 year on year.

Pisemskaya said Chinese investments in the Volgograd region are providing essential support for modernization across sectors such as industry, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The region also offers Chinese partners high-quality agricultural products, logistics channels, and access to the expanding market of southern Russia, she added.

The deputy governor noted growing interest of Chinese tourists in visiting the city of Volgograd, which has a rich history, while Volgograd residents are increasingly studying the Chinese language and culture.

Located in southern Russia between the Volga and Don rivers, Volgograd serves as a gateway to southern Russia. The strategic position has made it a key player in regional transport and trade.
